Although this may vary, certain useful figures are:

-Low to negative growth in real GDP

-High unemployment rate

-High Inflation or deflation

-Bad Stock Market overview

-High Current Account deficit (more imports than exports)

-Housing market stance (amount of bad mortages/ housing prices)

-Key industrial (in that country) growth

-Level of Immigration/emigration from that country (example, lots of Irish emigrated from Ireland since the bailout), although sometimes this may not be relevant

-Financial sector confidence (illustrated by level of investments and economic activities as well as amount of loans given)

-Level of government spending (High level of government spending MAY indicate a good economy. This is not the case when the government is spending to soak up the lack of demand however.)
