The American Civil War was devastating to the south. Even before the war, the South for the most part, had remained non-industrialized. By the end of the war, it was really far behind the north. It now faced challenges of hiring non-slave labor, and finding other markets for their cotton since Britain and France were now getting cotton from India and Egypt. The north had moved into the Second Industrial Revolution, there was a huge influx of immigrants to fill many of the jobs, and the Transcontinental Railroad had made the shipment of products much faster and cost efficient.
It stimulated the Northern economy, but wrecked the Southern economy.
The North had nearly all the industry, and many arable and livestock farms that could provide all the war supplies the Union needed. The North also continued to receive skilled immigrants from Europe, which helped industry further.
The South had little except for its huge cotton supplies, and it could hardly export these, owing to the success of the Union blockade. At the start, they were hoping for aid from Britain and France, but Lincoln skilfully prevented this with his Emancipation Proclamation, after which free nations abroad could not aid the South without looking pro-slavery themselves.

The statement that correctly explains economic conditions in the South during the Civil War was that they were very poor and relied heavily on agriculture. This greatly contrasted the North which was more industry oriented.
There was great wealth in the South, but it was primarily tied up in the slave economy. In 1860, the economic value of slaves in the United States exceeded the invested value of all of the nation's railroads, factories, and banks combined. On the eve of the Civil War, cotton prices were at an all-time high.
Because the war set up a demand for all the goods that Northern factories and farms could supply.
Gave it a major boost, since Northern factories were able to manufacture all kinds of war supplies, and the farms could sell all the food they grew.
