The standard of living in Africa depends on the country. South Africa is one of the best developed in Africa. I am from South Africa and as you can see I have Internet and my own computer. Everything in SA is perfectly normal, just as in any other developed country. The only MAIN thing missing is probably good law enforcement and sufficient public transport. All the other African Countries aren't as bad as well (Ive been to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and Mozambique). Yes, its not NYC, but there are shops, electricity, telephone, cellphones, Internet, etc.Africa is poor due to colonisation as well as bad management which is a result of African traditions and different way of approaching issues at stake which differs and clashes with Western ways of doing things.a simple example would be; For some African cultures it is good to lie, because you protect yourself or someone else from the person who wants to know the truth. If I stole something and someone else wants to know who stole the item, it will be good for you to lie, because you are protecting me. - It differs from western ways of thinking.Africa is a very interesting continent. To determine the standard of living, rather Google the country you are interested. I would suggest Google social issues, such as housing, service delivery, the government website, etc. not the tourism pages.Like i said, the standard of living is determined by the different country. As we all know, Zimbabwe is down the drain and then you find many books on 'why Botswana prospered'.
Many factors determine a standard of living, including average disposable income, general health, access to education, access to social services, and social freedom.
National income
Economists measure a nation's standard of living: by calculating GDP per person by calculating per capita income (the best indicator) by calculating average personal income.
One disadvantage of using per capita income to measure standard of living is that the average doesn't really account fluctuations in standard of living between very rich and very poor. This difference can be huge, but a per capita can make it appear small.

low standard of living
high standard of living= high GDP and vice versa

It is difficult to provide an average standard of living for the entire Earth, as living standards vary widely between countries and regions. Factors such as income level, access to healthcare, education, housing, and basic services all contribute to determining the standard of living in a particular area. International organizations such as the United Nations use various indicators, such as the Human Development Index, to assess and compare the standard of living across different countries.
