Where wages are lower, employment is higher. Without a minimum wage acting as a bar to hiring workers, unemployment will tend toward zero. This is due to the law of supply and demand, which states that more of a good (in this case, labor) is demanded when prices are low, and that more of a good is supplied when prices are high. However, these forces counteract each other to a degree: When low wages lead to high demand for labor, the labor supply becomes smaller as more people take jobs, leading to an increase in wages. However, if a significant number of people in a given market to not have jobs, but are not counted in unemployment numbers because they have given up searching for work, then as wages rise, these will likely re-enter the labor market, causing wages to tend downward.
