One opinion:What good is the $25 weekly increase if it only lasts 5-6 more weeks? Many, many, many people thought it would (extend) the actual number of weeks to collect a check, but our President only signed a bill to (extend) the filing date for which one must file for the EUC Tier 1 and 2 levels before December 31, 2009. In his comments about the unemployment, it was mis-communicated by the media, stating that an actual extension will be passed, when it just was a date passed. Go figure, Vote Dem for the first time and get screwed.

Each state has its own regulations regarding extensions. They can be Tier I (the normal period), Tier II (first extension), possible Tier III (when the first two expire), and then there is the one the President signed into law on 11/6/09 that extends it up to 14 weeks.

What can the president give to someone who has been unfairly convicted of a crime?

The president can grant clemency to someone convicted of a crime. Clemency can mean the sentence is either shortened or waived for that person. As for compensation for wrongful imprisonment, the president does not give any compensation. Once out of prison, the convicted can sue for compensation, but the president has nothing to do with that.

Will there be another unemployment extension or are they just extending the eligibility dates?

As of right now, no there is not. Some states with exceptionally high unemployment rates have triggered EB(Extended benefits) for up to 20 weeks - this might be considered a Tier III extension. Most people that are on this will expire before the end of summer. The people that have been unemployed since early 2008 are in the worst position - no jobs and extensions to run out!Congress should pass another legislation for a Tier VI extension before they go on vacation this August 2009. It is desperately needed as unemployment continues to rise. Where are the jobs??The tally is in. H.R. 3548 passes by a 98-0 margin. It now will move back to the House, which is expected to take up the bill quickly.
