Introduction
Forty years back, Kovilpatti was a small town. In and around Kovilpatti, there are a number of Villages. At that time, the people of this area were educationally and economically backward and there were no facilities for higher education. Realizing all these factors, Lakshmi Mills House, Coimbatore, decided to start a high school and a college at Kovilpatti. Both were started in the academic year 1966-67
Aided Courses
The college was initially started with P.U.C course and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. And it was upgraded to a first grade college by starting B.Sc Mathematics in the year 1967-68. Further affiliations were obtained during the academic year 1972-73 to start B.Sc (Physics, Chemistry, and botany) and B.Com. The College was further upgraded into a Post Graduate Institution by starting Mathematics in the year 1990-91. The management decided to start job oriented vocational courses one after another. As per the government policy, these courses were started as self-Financing courses from the academic year 1994-95 onwards.
Self-Financing Courses
Socially relevant courses which find employment and self-employment potential are felt much in need for the present day situation. Hence the management proposed to start job oriented vocational courses under Self- Financing Scheme. As a First step B.Sc Computer Science was started in the year 1994-95. Other courses B.B.A, PGDCA, B.Sc Electronics and B.Sc Costume Design and Fashion were started on the subsequent years one after another. The management decided to conduct all the self-Financing courses in a separate campus without causing any inconvenience to the aided courses in the main college campus. Every year required infrastructures are being added to meet the growing needs of the Self-Financing courses.
The management desired to start P.G. Courses. M.Sc Computer Science was started in the year 2001-02, M.Sc Information Technology in the year 2002-03 and M.Com Computer Application in the year 2006-07. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, conducts distance education of correspondence courses and IGNOU study centre at the campus of Self-Financing courses.

Quiz Club Quiz Club encourage the enthusiastic students to improve their IQ. About seventy five students are selected as members of this club. They are divided into 4 groups(computer science, Electronics, CD&F and BBA). Each group conducts the oral quiz in every fifth day order.
G.K.D memorial inter-collegiate quiz competition is also conducted every year. Students Welfare Council
Our Management has launched the students welfare scheme to establish one-to-one relationship between the students and teachers and to seek academic remedial measures as and when needed.
Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) Parent-Teacher Association was started on 2.10.2004.The general body meeting of the association is convened once in a year. The executive committee consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer meets at least 3 times in a year.
