sounds to me like ur rings are shot you gotta replace them and wet sand your piston/cylinder should fire up

Bad oil rings. Do a Murder Mystery Oil Soak on the cylinders
They are usually sold by the set. but not much-it is the labor than will hurt. If you threw a rod, they may have to sleeve the bore or even replace the block. If you are replacing 1 piston, I would have all rebored & throw on new rings.
There should be a arrow on top of the piston close to the pistons edge. Your top ring's gap should be on same side as arrow. Then alternate next ring 180 degrees from last gap. The arrow should facing forward when installed into the jug.

The manual sez that the odometer lamp is a '73' but offers no help on how to replace it.
