American representation of Native Americans, or First Nation Peoples. Since the American History regarding Natives Americans is particularly distressing and tragic some may say that attempts to dehumanize those killed in the genocide is a way of contemporary America attempting to remove a sense of guilt. Classic 'Cowboy and Indian' films particularly depict Native Americans in negative ways that often dehumanize those involved to make the events appear more acceptable and inevitable.

Colonial Europeans have been said to dehumanize indigenous peoples. Authors such as Rudyard Kipling also have been criticized of this. The attitude of some colonials may have suggested the natives peoples to have been inferior to Europeans and therefore in need of being changed and dominated.

During the Holocaust it was necessary for the Third Reich to dehumanize the Jews. This was orchestrated for many years prior to what we think of as 'The Holocaust' and without the successful dehumanization the Holocaust would likely have been far less destructive. They would dehumanize the Jews by removing their culture, freedom and human rights. This would ultimately lead to the formation of ghettos and subsequently death camps where those in residence would have little left to identify themselves as the humans they once were. During the Survivor's liberation, those in the death camps actually became rapidly worse off due largely to the strong reactions of the allied forces to the gross dehumanization that had taken place.
