As there is always bound to be an internet access point it can then be referred to as Distance learning since you are not tied down to working at the office or at school etc.
Online learning refers to e-learning, where the training sessions are typically computer-based tutorials and/or are delivered over the Internet. Distance learning has been in existence for over a century, even before the advent of computers. Students and colleges used to correspond through postal mail, with colleges providing educational material in the form of books. But nowadays, with the advent of Internet, the terms are used interchangeably, mainly because the instructional material is often delivered or can be accessed online. Both are similar in a way that there is no physical classroom setting comprising students and teachers. Many colleges offer online courses today. As an example, Independence University, that's accredited by the ACCSC, has programs in business and healthcare that are delivered fully online.
