First, you did not identify which South University you are referring to. There are three, one in Georgia, one in Alabama, and one in South Carolina. However, in this instance all three have a regional accreditation.

When choosing an institution, you should look for colleges and universities that have a regional accreditation, not national. The regional accreditation actually has a higher standard than the national accreditation, and is the most preferred. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. Do not be fooled by the word national. Because people see the word national, they automatically assume that it is better than regional which is not the case here. Remember to select a school with a regional accreditation, it will make a big difference especially if you choose to continue your education to the graduate level. In addition, employers in the know, may not accept a degree from a nationally accredited institution.

Below I have listed the six regional accrediting agencies and their geographical area of responsibility. Make sure the institution you choose has one of these.

Regional Accreditation Agencies

· New England Association of Schools and Colleges- Educational institutions in the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont).

· North Central Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
