I am assuming that Social Studies is analogous to History here. Social studies as a subject in School is a blatant waste of time, resource and money. It is a subject that demands mindless memorization and requires little if not no critical thinking.
Firstly, learning about what happened in the past serve no purpose other than to entertain oneself. It is said that we learn from the past so that we do not repeat similar mistakes in the future. However, the reasons why war happen is much more complex than that. For example, the Korean War and the Vietnam War occurred in quick succession to each other. Did USA learn anything from the Korean War? Definitely not. War happen due to national interests, ideological differences and political conflict. Knowing what happened in the past definitely does little to prevent a war from taking place.
Next, Social studies may be used as a form of Propaganda. Such a subject ultimately aims to promote a country and to hide its hideous past. There's definitely no social studies/history text that is unbiased and just. For example, just compare how different countries interpret
Finally, Once you memorize pages of content for your test, you will definitely forget it in a matter of weeks, and this defeats the purpose of having such a subject; a subject that focuses on mere memorization instead of the rich experience of actually learning and gaining knowledge.
Ergo, that's why its a waste of time :)
Why waste time on social media when its purpose is to connect, not consume?
Actually facebook does not have any effects on your studies. It can just waste a lot of time from your studies if you use it often.
