interconnected star or (Zig Zag connection) is a method of connecting the phase windings of a three phase transformer. normally, it's used for earthing of the the delta-connected low tension side of power Transformers. it has the benefit of eliminating third harmonic in the winding terminals, it also can be used as the auxialry transformer that provide the substation with it's own needs of electric power as following:

case 1: using the Z winding as earthing transformer: in this case the winding is stand alone, it means no primary or secondry side , simply , it's one three-phase winding, each phase winding is divided into tow equal peices, then these peices are interconnected in a manner that the first half of phase R is connected to the second half of pahse T, The first half of pahse S is connected to the second half of phase R, and the first half of phase T is connected to the second half of phase S: these connections are done but in reverse in order to eleminate third harmonic in the phase voltage , then reducing the neutral conductor size and also giving almost pure faundamental voltage to the load.

What does a Y mean on a printed circuit board?

it means that it's star connected on the motor part

Is the line is necessary for the balanced star- connected load?

I think you probably mean is a neutral conductor necessary for a balanced star-connected load? If this is what you mean, then the answer is no, it isn't, as the phasor-sum of the phase currents will equal zero. Often, though, it is difficult to achieve a balanced load, so a neutral is then necessary, as it is needed to provide a return path for the unbalanced current -without this neutral, the phase voltages would change and become unbalanced.

Why use link in star contactor?

The link in the star contactor is used to form the star point of three of the motor leads. On most star wound motors the star point is inside the motor windings. On a motor that can be used for star delta starting it is a six wire motor. The star point winding depends on the contactor to tie the coil ends together externally in the control panel of the star delta starter.

Should a star-delta motor be supplied wye or delta power?

A star-delta motor should be supplied star-delta.Wye is simply another name for star. Star-delta motors use a star or wye configuration to start, and a delta configuration to run. This reduces the voltage on the windings during the high current starting time.

What is the star point of a CT?

The term, 'star point', refers to the common point of connection for the three windings of a star-connected (wye-connected) transformer connection. The star point is usually earthed (grounded) and provides the neutral point of the connection.
