Semi-converter is an electronic circuit in which the rectification is done with the help of controled rectifiers and diodes. Had doides been not used and instead if we use all four tyristors, then the converter will become a full converter. Semi converter saves the cost by introduction of two diodes replacing two tyristors out of total four.

Why the power factor of semiconverter is better than full converter?

because semi converter has 1ly 2 thyristor where else full converter has 4 thyrister..thn semi converter the rectification is through rectifier and diodes. but in ful converter no diodes is used 1ly 4 thyristers are used

What are the effect of removing the freewheeling diode In single phase semi converter?

Removing the freewheeling diode in a single-phase semi-converter can lead to several adverse effects. Without the diode, the inductive load will not have a path for the current to continue flowing when the SCRs are turned off, potentially causing voltage spikes and damaging the circuit components. Additionally, the efficiency of the converter may decrease, leading to increased ripple in the output voltage and a less stable operation. Overall, the absence of the freewheeling diode compromises the converter's performance and reliability.

What is the difference between a fully controlled and a semi controlled converter?

Fully controlled rectifier uses only SCR's Negative output voltages are obtained two quadrant control wide range control costly semi converter uses diodes and SCR's only positive output voltages are obtained one quadrant control only positive half cycles are controlled
