The physical internal windings between single phase and three phase motors makes this an impossibility That being said money can make anything happen. Depending on the amount of money you want to spend to make this happen there is a device on the market called a VFD ( Variable Frequency Drive). On the three phase input terminals you apply your single phase voltage. On the output terminals you connect your three phase motor. When run in this configuration there is an internal switch that has to be changed to let the VFD know that it should be looking for only two lines on the input to be hot. Otherwise the VFD thinks that there is a line loss on the three phase input terminals and the unit will not start. <<>> You can make a phase converter with a couple extra motors. Wire up a 120V single phase motor and couple it to a 3 phase motor. This turns the 3 phase motor into a generator for you to run to whatever equipment the 3 phase motor is. Although if you had a single phase motor you probable don't need a 3 phase motor. == == <<>> yes! you will have to buy a phase converter. <<>> yes, it is possible to this with a rotary phase converter . one manufacturer is "phase master" (as an example only, not wishing to promote any brand). these are not cheap units and it may be more cost effective to purchase a single phase (220V.) replacement motor . the overall efficiency (operational costs) would be better too . a rotary phase converter is usually the "last choice on the list" .

What is the minimum voltage a 115vac 400hz 3 phase motor will run?

Yes the minimum voltage of an 115vac 400 Hz 3 phase motor will run. You can run a single phase motor on a three service but you cannot be run on a single phase.

Can you run a star motor in delta?

Delta motors should have more starting current than Wye (Star) motors because Delta motors have two windings to take current per phase -- they are wired Phase to Phase. Star motors have only one winding per phase -- they are wired Phase to Neutral.

What is the difference between a one phase and a three phase motor. And if a three phase motor is given a single phase supply will it run or not?

The difference between a single phase and a three phase motor is the amount of power conductors that feed the device. As to the other part of the question a three phase motor will not start or run on single phase. The phase angles on three phase are 120 degrees apart on a single phase system they are 180 degrees apart.

Why 3 phase motor rotate in opposite direction?

You would reverse rotation on a 3 phase motor to get it to run backwards. Say I fill up a tank truck from a lake. I turn on my generator. I run the motor in one direction. Then I drive the tank truck and the motor to a different location. Then I turn on my generator. I attach the hose to the motor on tank truck. I throw the switch to make the motor run backwards. I aim the hose at the fire in your house. Aren't you glad that I can make my 3 phase motor run backwards?

What size motor do you need to run a compressor 2 stage 80 gallon tank i have a 3 phase on it and want to change motor?

You probably need a 5hp or 7hp motor. Look for HP rating o the 3 phase motor and select the same for single phase. 3 phase has same power but is more efficient at electricity use. Also consider a 3 phase converter. It allows a 3 phase motor to run on single phase service.

Why three phase motor run in reverse even if it is not wired to run in reverse direction?

If a three phase motor in running in reverse, then one of the phases is reversed, plain and simple. If the wiring is correct at the motor, perhaps the phase reversal occurred someplace else.

What happen If one phase of the three phase induction motor is not supplied?

If the motor was lightly loaded it may continue to run, however in most applications the loss of the phase would cause the motor to stop. Properly wired and it should trip the motor overload device and prevent damage to the motor windings.

What circuit you can use to run three phase motor?

It must be a three phase supply service to run a three phase motor.

Is 3 phase motor run on 1 phase supply?

No. That would be a single phase motor.

What would cause an electric motor to run backwards?

Motors running backwards: A DC motor wired backwards or magnetic field reversed. A 3 phase AC motor with 2 phases reversed A single phase motor will run either way unless it is 'persuaded' by means of a shaded pole or other method to rotate in a particular direction.

You have one hp three phase motor where as available power supply is only single phase how can you run this motor?

You will need to install a phase converter or change the motor to single phase. You can find a licensed electrician at www.contraxtor.com

Which A motor is to be operated from 230 V 50 HZ single phase AC?

All types of motor can be run from a single-phase supply provided the frequency, voltage and power capacity of the supply matches that of the motor and it has been designed to run on single-phase.
