In Australia most power is generated in 3 phase the split down to single phase wen it reaches individual residences 3 phase power is more efficient to produce.

most single phase motors have switching gear and capacitors to help kick a motor on when it starts because single phase power doesn't have enough power to turn over a motor. 3 phase motors are generally simpler and require no starting gear ( normally cheaper to build)

Most workshops have 3 phase machinery for the extra power it prvides

Some motors can be 2 phase (rare) as well.

Yes, there a difference between three phase and single phase electrical supply services.

Is 10 kva supply to 3 phase load is equal to 10kva supply to single phase load?

Yes of course!! 10 kva electrical power is 10 kva electrical power either it would be three phase or single phase. But other factors i.e. current, voltage changes accordingly. Actually this question is quit confusable. Because in 3phase system, if each phase gives 10kva power (single phase power = 10 kva) then 3 phase power will be 10 X 3 = 30 Kva If we go leteratualy towasrds the question, then the asnwer will be - No. becasue 10 kva supply to 3 phase load will be 3phase supply(i.e440V) & 10kva supply to single phase load will be single supply (i.e 250V).

Which electrical test requires the supply to be energized?

Testing of an electrical circuit for voltage requires the supply to be energized.

How do you change 3 phase to single phase for Henny Penny display warmer?

You can go to an electrical supply store and purchase a transformer that will work for youAnswerA single phase supply can be obtained by connecting the load between any pair of line conductors, or between one line conductor and the neutral -depending on the nature of your three-phase supply. The single-phase voltage must match the rated voltage of your warmer, otherwise you must use a transformer.
