Canada is a major world source of minerals, metals, grains, timber and until recently, fish. There is more oil in the Alberta Tar sands than in Saudi Arabia.

Canada has also contributed to what Canadians have regarded as just causes; the two world wars are the best examples. More recently Canada has acted as an international peacekeeping force. Canada has welcomed refugees from all over the world, so much so that some have taken advantage of this.

Canada has sometimes acted as a bridge between our sometimes pugilistic friends to our south and other nations.

Canada contributed to the space program and is active in providing medical care to countries whose people cannot provide it for themselves. Canada is a generator of medical and scientific research.

Canadian schools and universities are world class as are our hospitals.

Generally, globalization means a process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network of political ideas through communication, transportation, and trade.

Many people think that this world has no borders because we are so connected, but others complain that globalization is making the rich richer and the poor poorer. As far as the consumer is concerned, he can get what he wants in any country, and as far as a company is concerned, it can get customers throughout the world. Wealthy companies seek the cheapest labor in any part of the world to drive down the cost of production and increase profits.

When used in an economic context, it refers to realization of a global common market, based on the freedom of exchange of goods and capital.

When used in an industrial context, it refers to emergence of worldwide production markets and broader access to a range of foreign products for consumers and companies.

When used in a financial context, it refers to emergence of worldwide financial markets and better access to external financing for borrowers.

When used in a political context, it refers to the creation of a world government which regulates the relationships among governments and guarantees the rights arising from social and economic globalization.

We should not forget that globalization is a way of trade that has existed for hundreds of years. In previous centuries the governments paid more attention to not importing same goods. Today we have the benefits of getting any product from any corner in the world, sometimes with disastrous results. For example, the modern slave trade is a side product of modern globalization.

A global is any name declared with file scope. That is, the name exists for the entire lifetime of the program and can be modified by any code that has access to the name. Since there is no control over what code can modify a name's value, global names are best avoided in anything other than trivial applications. Local, function, class and prototype names are always the preferred scopes as they each limit the exposure of a name. In more complex applications, the need for a global name is usually a sign of poor design. For instance, passing a local name to a function by non-constant reference is far more acceptable than allowing the function to modify a global name. This is because it makes it much clearer to the caller that the name could be modified, whereas if the function modified a global name then that modification would be hidden from the caller. While you may be fully aware of the side-effects while writing the code, a few weeks down the line it will not be as self-evident as passing a local name would have been.
