How does the moisture affect the strength values of concrete?

the moisture of concrete is main strength for reinforced concrete structure

What are the main ingredients of readymix concrete?

Ballast, sand and cement (+water).

Why steel is used to reinforce concrete explain it?

There are two main loading conditions that concrete under goes. These are Compression and Tension. Concrete is very strong in compression and is very weak in Tension (pulling apart). Concrete has so little strength to resist tension it is assumed to have no strength in tension. When civil engineers design concrete structures they can determine where the tension and compression will be located. Steel is added to give the concrete tensile strength. For Example a concrete beam when loaded from the top will experience compression on top section of the beam. The top portion of the beam will push inwards creating compression while the bottom section will pull apart creating tension. (Imagine a smile shape). :) Therefore reinforcement will be needed in the tension area (bottom).

What are the different parts of concrete?

Concrete is primarily composed of four main parts: cement, water, aggregates, and admixtures. Cement acts as a binding agent, while water initiates the chemical reaction that allows the cement to harden. Aggregates, which include sand, gravel, or crushed stone, provide bulk and strength to the concrete mix. Admixtures are optional ingredients added to enhance specific properties, such as workability, durability, or set time.

What is the difference in geopolymer concrete mix design from mix design of ordinary portland cement?

the main difference is we will not at all use the ordinary port land cement in the geo polymer concrete mix simply we will use fly ash as a binder material and a chemicals such as sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide are used

It serves as the binder for sand and gravel when making concrete.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of compacting concrete using a vibrator?

The main disadvantage of compacting concrete using a cement vibrator is the noise. The advantages of compacting concrete using a cement vibrator is to remove trapped air and excess water which then allows the concrete settle firmly.

What is the meaning of 3 leg stirrup in beam?

A 3-leg stirrup in a beam refers to a type of reinforcement used in reinforced concrete structures. It consists of three vertical legs that create a closed loop around the main reinforcement bars, providing additional support and shear resistance. This design helps improve the structural integrity and prevents cracking or failure in the beam under load. The configuration also aids in maintaining proper spacing and alignment of the main reinforcement.

Is concrete a covalent compound?

Yes, concrete is a mixture of several materials, including cement, aggregates (such as sand and gravel), and water. Cement is a covalent compound, specifically calcium silicates that form through a chemical reaction. Therefore, while concrete as a whole is not a single covalent compound, one of its main components, cement, is.

Why it is called a biaxial voided slab?

Voided biaxial slabs are reinforced concrete slabs in which voids reduce the amount of concrete. While concrete has been used for thousands of years, the use of reinforced concrete is a relatively recent invention, usually attributed to Joseph-Louis Lambot in 1848. Joseph Monier, a French gardener, patented a design for reinforced garden tubs in 1868, and later patented reinforced concrete beams and posts for railway and road guardrails. The main obstacle with concrete constructions, in case of horizontal slabs, is the high weight, which limits the span. For this reason major developments of reinforced concrete have focused on enhancing the span, either by reducing the weight or overcoming concrete's natural weakness in tension

What are concrete blocks normally used for?

Concrete blocks are large cement bricks used in construction. The main purpose of concrete blocks is for building foundations, basement walls, exterior and partition walls.
