Some of the 'pieces' are in the the Texas Ranger museum in Waco. The wooden design, differs from the final version. It is not entirely clear if the gun was ever actually assembled in its wooden form or whether the parts were just used to show to the gunsmith that made the Paterson.
I have just finished a novel that features this legendary wooden gun.
Update. Some wooden pieces and the prototypes are in the Wadsworth Atheneum museum as part of their Colt collection.
