Counting lines of code is so widely used as a productivity metric because it's one of the few easily-measurable aspects of software engineering.
Customers typically don't care about how your product works. When they meet with you to see what progress has been made, it's very hard to show that you've spent two weeks connecting a GUI with some back-end database connections. So the LOC metric is used to show progress in cases when it is impossible to show actual functionality.

Contour lines on a on a topographic map indicate elevations. Since elevation changes gently on gentle slopes the contour lines are further apart. Elevation changes rapidly on a steep slope so the contour lines are closer together.

I am using Dermatage anti aging cream and I see a difference in my face. I used to look in the mirror and think I was frowning but I was not. The cream has removed those lines when used as directed. Does anyone else like this product? Has this product been reviewed anywhere?

Personally I think the metric system is better because it is easier in my opinion. When you think about it though, pretty much every teacher in the US has taught their students through the metric system and to change it would be complicated and the parents would even be confused too.
