Encourage them to use fountain pens, dip nib pens or goose quills(historical), rather then biros. Reason ; A pen 'controls' the hand to form the letters correctly, A biro allowsfor 'slippage' of the hand, and thereby the letters are not correctly formed/mispelled, followed by incorrect meaning.
Since English like all languages is a means of communication, teach them the correct pronunciation of words, and the correct order of words (syntax).
To do this have each in turn recite a passage from say , Shakespearem or a poem, to the remainder of the group, in ordedr to project the voice and the pronunciationm so everyone can listen and understand.
Have them read books, NOT newspapers , even English language newsoaoers abuse the English language. As teenagers, have them, read ' Great Expectation ( Dickens) for boys, and Pride and Prejudice ( Austen) for girls.
