Stewardship origionally referred to the duties of a household chief of staff. In the middle ages, it was common to have a Steward in charge of the running of the house while the master was away. He had great power, second only to the master in authority. Now it means most ordinarily, the wise management of assets not necessarily your own which was only part of the duties of the manor steward. "Andrew assumed stewardship of the accounting for the firm Grindle and Associates when the accounting firm was fired."
