Tybalt 's nickname is 'Prince of Cats', so he is firstly referring to this. However, Mercutio also insults Tybalt's name, because it sounds like 'Tibbles'. Tibbles is a popular name for a cat (a rat-catcher.)
He also calls him a cat in a derogatory term. Cat sounds remarkably like Cazzo in Italian. Romeo and Juliet is set in Italy. Cazzo means the male genitalia. its pronounced "CAT-so". <-(by adrienne) At the time Romeo And Juliet was written there was a popular story named ' reynard the fox' in which the cat was called 'Tibalt'. Mercutio uses this story to tease Tybalt with and continues to refer to Tybalt as a cat, therefore 'ratcatcher' <-(thesilenceRHIAN)
Good King of Cats, Prince of Cats, Ratcatcher, and there is one more insult. He also calls him a cat in a derogatory term. Cat sounds remarkably like Cazzo in Italian. Romeo and Juliet is set in Italy. Cazzo means...erm the male genitalia. its pronounced "CAT-so".
Tybalt was asking for a fight with Romeo. Since he was married to Juliet and Tybalt was now his cousin, he refused to fight him. Then Mercutio asked to fight Tybalt and in a way kind of tempted him to fighting. Tybalt ended up killing Mercutio because Romeo got in the way when trying to stop the fight between the two. So now Romeo is angry that his friend Mercutio is dead and Tybalt doesn't have a scratch. So, Tybalt and Romeo fight and Romeo kills Tybalt.
Tybalt's last name is never mentionned in the play. However, we do know he is the nephew of Lady Capulet.
two syllables
Mercutio, as he is dying in Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'. He says this because Romeo would not defend himself against Tybalt since he has just married Juliet. So Mercutio trys to defend Romeo and ends up getting killed himself, While he is dieing he says "A Plauge o'both of your houses!" Because he blames both Tybalt and Romeo for his death. Since Tybalt killed Mercutio which is Romeo's best friend, Romeo goes and kills Tybalt.
Tybalt
"Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk?" is what Mercutio says. It's a kind of insult, and tied up with the nicknames Mercutio has been giving Tybalt: "King of Cats" and "Prince of Cats". But generally ratcatchers (exterminators specializing in rats) were not the most highly regarded people.
Mercutio says to Tybalt: "Tybalt, you ratcatcher, will you walk?", which is the equivalent of saying "How would you like to step outside and discuss this?". It's a challenge. Challenges often result in fights.Tybalt says "I am for you" which means "You're on." It may seem odd that he says "I am for you" when he is really against him, but that's just the way the language goes. It's like saying, "If you want to fight, I'm your man." If you are your opponent's man, what are you fighting for? Tybalt means "I am the man for you."
