There are lots of them out there, but a good one is lagniappe, because it is pronounced 'lan-yap'.
But one of my favorites is: 'hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia', which is, ironically, the fear of long words.
I've always liked 'onomatopoeia' because of the four consecutive vowels at the end of the word.
1) ratiocination
There is a journal article about this apparently. I think that I may be breaching copyright to copy and paste the words though. (1997) The 100 English words most difficult to pronounce. English Phonetics the Journal of the English Phonetic Society of Japan pp 27-59
(There is a related link to this exact subject.)
Right at the top of the list would be "misspelled", along with some other common words having letter pairs. Other errors are due to silent vowels or consonants, or words from other languages that retain their original spelling (e.g. hors d'oeuvres, faux).
What are the top 100 hardest words to spell?
What makes a word difficult to spell? This can be several things. A word can be difficult because it has arrived in our English dictionaries from a language very different from our own, like Welsh, Afrikaans, Sanskrit, or others. Because of this, the pronunciation doesn't indicate the spelling. It could have a silent letter, or two, or three. It can be difficult because it has a peculiar double letter, such as aa or ii or kk, etc. So, to pick a list of "the 100 hardest words," we started with a very long list of very difficult words, and we started throwing out words that had some of the same elements of difficulty and we kept culling words. This is, at the very least, a very difficult list of 100 words.

There are common mistakes that people make on certain words, but it all depends on your language, how experienced you are at reading/writing, if you have even come accross that word before and hundreds of other factors.
