What to do with a severely arthritic sheep?

Will your guppy fish recover from injury bend in body?

If a fishes spine is deformed or broken the fish will not do well and IMO should be euthanased.

Will the bend in baby guppy body repair itself?

It is probably a genetic defect that has been caused by constant "in breeding" and the fish should be euthanased/destroyed.

Why do fish usually sink to the bottom of the tank?

If the fish is dead it may sink. Otherwise a fish can go anywhere in the tank by using its swim bladder. If the fish seems to be struggling to get to the surface, the fishes swim bladder is damaged and the fish should be euthanased.

What was the name of the elephant that recently died at Auckland Zoo?

Kashin, an Asian elephant, was euthanased at Auckland Zoo on the 24th of August 2009, because ongoing illness was her causing significant pain that could not be relieved. She had been at the zoo for 26 years after arriving in 1972 at the age of 4.

Why does your Siamese fighting fish swim sideways?

It may be because the main source of light is from the side and the fish is trying to balance itself and make sense of the light source in its autonomous systems. It is more likely however that the fish has a swim bladder problem. If this is so, then to the best of my knowledge there is no reliable cure/treatment and the fish is best euthanased.

What is the scientific name for a balloon molly fish?

The Balloon molly is a Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops) that has been bred with a deformed spine. (It was an inevitable accident of (bad) inbreeding) This deformity shortens the fishes lifespan. If this deformity had occured in any fish I had bred I would have euthanased the fish rather than perpetuate a deformity. I personally believe that the breeders who deliberately breed and allow this deformed fish to be sold are doing the wrong thing by the species.

How do zoos dispose of large animals?

Most zoos have a policy whereby any animal in the collection that dies or is euthanased, must have a autopsy performed by their zoo vet or pathologist. Once the body is examined thoroughly, biopsies are taken and stored for future examination or testing. The remainder of the carcass is then disposed of (either buried or incinerated). Very rarely larger carcasses may be fed to one of the carnivores on the zoo grounds, as long as the animal it did not die of something contagious or was not given a lethal injection (which may then also kill anything that eats it). I hope this answers your question.
