In the first question you're asking your mom to make you a pizza. In the second question you're beating around the bush stating what you want, hoping that she would pick up on what you want.

An indirect question describes the question that was asked, but does not use the actual words, nor a question mark:

ex. Jane played ball. played WHAT? ball. "Played" is the main verb because the subject, "Jane," is the one doing it.
It ASKS the question "To or For Whom", and the answer would be the indirect object.
ex. Jane bought Bruce a shirt. "Bruce" is the indirect object because it answers the question "To or for whom." Just don't put the indirect object in a prepositional phrase, then the whole phrase becomes a modifier and has no effect on the sentence, leaving the sentence without an indirect object.
ex. Jane bought a shirt for Bruce. "For Bruce" is a prepositional phrase, modifying shirt, making Bruce the object of the preposition, and not the indirect object.
