"Pioneers, Oh Pioneers" is a short story by Dominican writer Jean Rhys published in 1976 in a collection of short stories called "Sleep It Off, Lady".
Mr. Ramage, a Englishman who travels to Dominica, is the main character of the short story. In the story he buys an estate, marries a colored woman and attempts to go assimilate into the Dominican culture. The community considers his behavior odd and criticizes him. In the end he commits suicide.

It is without doubt the rarest Jean Rhys related book (actually a translation and rewriting by her of a book by Jim Jean Leenlet aka Deward de Neve), even the British Library copy has been "mislaid..."
