Most superstitions come from the outsome of a previous event, say if a barrel racer won with a certian pair of jeans, she might wear them everytime she runs, because she would think they were lucky, or if a roper missed the steer with a certain rope a whole bunch of times, he may not use that rope anymore.

To erradicate superstitions in general, an effort is required to educate people. This can be organized at the government level, come from different institutions, but individuals can also assist, trying to teach their neighbors for example.
