To change the thermostat on a 1986 Volvo 240DL, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the coolant from the radiator, then locate the thermostat housing, which is typically at the end of the upper radiator hose. Remove the housing by unscrewing the bolts, take out the old thermostat, and clean the surfaces before installing the new thermostat with the correct orientation. Reassemble the housing, refill the coolant, and reconnect the battery.
I believe there isn't one.
Dexon IID, IIE, or III. Any Dexon III is fine, and it's what I use. -Bob, 1986 Volvo 240DL wagon
Simply switch on the key to initialize and crank the engine to activate. What kind of problem are you having to ask this type question?
To determine if your 1986 Volvo 240DL has Ate or Girling brake calipers, you can inspect the markings on the calipers themselves. Ate calipers typically have "Ate" or "Ate Power" stamped on them, while Girling calipers will have "Girling" marked. Additionally, you can check the brake parts catalog or service manual for your specific vehicle model and VIN to see the original equipment specifications. If you're unsure, consulting a mechanic or Volvo enthusiast may provide clarity.
Follow the positive battery cable and it will lead to it.
Each heater is controlled by two switches in series: the manual switch on the e-brake console and the thermostat within the seat pad. Both must be closed in order for the switch light to be on and for the seat to heat. If the ambient temperature is above X, the thermostat will remain open and turning the manual switch on-off will have no effect. You can test the system in warm weather by placing a large bag of ice on the seat for about an hour. -Bob, 1986 Volvo 240DL wagon.
Where is starter relay on a 1986 volvo 240gl

Fuse 11 supplies three things: Overdrive relay, seat heaters, and rear window defogger. Common problem on a wagon are the wiring harnesses to the tailgate. I think the left one has the window defogger. The wires get frayed and short to ground. Look at the top of the tailgate hinges and see the wires. -Bob, 1986 Volvo 240DL wagon.

Yes I believe actually the 1986 to 1992 Volvo 240 4 doors are all interchangeable parts but I'm not sure for 1985 and earlier models.
