Just been in that exact situation. Need to charge battery, but as it's in the boot, you can't get to it!
The way I got around it was to connect up a portable jump start unit under the bonnet which allowed me to unlock car with remote plip.
Once I had removed battery for charging, I just relocked with plip, removed jump start and closed bonnet - all secure.
Do the same to refit battery, but just remember to set ignition to position II before connecting it up. Not sure why, just something Volvo dealer told me I needed to do.
Close the tailgate!
You'll have to use the key.
When you have no battery in your 2001 Volvo s80 and the trunk will not open how do you open it when there is no electricity
that keeps the dome lights on
Not sure about manually but I used my key on driver side door and unlocked twice. Turn the key twice and you will hear it unlock. This popped the lock on the tailgate. When in doubt, always go to the drivers door!
There are either shocks that hold it up your linkage. Most likely shocks, they do wear out over time and they are not expensive and pretty easy to put them in.
The hood should still open when the battery is dead
To replace the tailgate struts on a Volvo V70, first, support the tailgate in the open position to prevent it from falling. Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the retaining clips or sockets that secure the old struts at both ends. Remove the old struts and then attach the new ones by fitting them into place and securing them with the clips. Finally, test the tailgate to ensure it opens and closes smoothly.
With your key.
