I have just changed the two handbrake cables on the back of a 1995 Fiat Punto and couldn't not have done this using the instructions in the Hayes manual. I seriously doubt if anybody can remove these cables from older vechicles, by only accessing the end of the cable that connects to the brake shoe, through the access bung on the back of the brake drum assembly. I had to remove the brake drum and remove the brake shoes. I then cut through the old cable and had to use a heafty thump to remove the cable grommets from the back of each brake drum. The other end of the cable is accessed from under the handbrake shroud. You remove both the left and right cable nipples from the beam attached to the back of the handbrake lever. The cables can then be removed from under the car but ONLY after you have removed the two litle "C" washers that fit into the grove on the cable grommet. Fiddly job but it can be done. My only problem now if getting the handbrake adjusted as I think the spring loaded mechanism on the back of the brake shoes has not "self adjusted" out so the calbe movement is not sufficient to activate the brake shoe sufficiwently enough to apply the brakes. That's the next job for this week end!!! I have never seen this Fiat forum before but have done quite a few MOT enforced jobs on my daughter's car. Will keep looking. Good luck

To adjust the gear selector cable on a Fiat Grande Punto, first, ensure the vehicle is in neutral and the handbrake is engaged. Locate the adjustment mechanism on the cable, typically found near the gear lever or at the transmission end. Loosen the locking nut, adjust the cable length to achieve the correct tension, and then retighten the nut. Finally, test the gear shifting to ensure smooth operation before closing everything up.
MK1 Punto's do not have clutch fluid... Unlike BMWs, Punto's clutch is controlled via cable...

To adjust the handbrake on a Fiat Punto Grande, first, ensure the car is on a level surface and the wheels are chocked. Locate the handbrake adjustment nut, usually found under the center console or near the handbrake lever. Turn the nut clockwise to tighten the brake or counterclockwise to loosen it, ensuring the handbrake engages securely with a few clicks when pulled. Finally, test the handbrake by engaging it and checking for proper function before replacing any covers.
There is a screw on the hand brake handle inside the cabin. Just take off the leather that is covering your handbrake lever, and you will see it.
