The fuel tank has to be removed - siphon all petrol out. From inside the boot remove spare wheel and all fixings from the tank and all electrical connections and breathers from the top of the tank. From underneath the car the fuel pipes need to be disconnected. The Haynes manual recommends dropping th rear axle to gain access to then but it can be done without doing this although it is extremely tricky! I have managed to do it twice!! Once all pipes and wires have been disconnected the tank can be removed from the boot of the car. The fuel pump is located in a plastic 'can' that can be removed from the tank by gently tapping the locking ring undone. Getting the pump out of the container is slighty tricky since it is important to try and avoid breaking the moulded plastic tags that secure the top of the container. Mine broke but I secured it on re-fitting with three self tapping screws. Replacement 'non-Jaguar' pumps are avialable from David Manners Ltd. This is a big job for the amateur so allow plenty of time and be aware of the potential fire/explosion hazard - empty fuel tanks are more dangerous than full ones and can be easily ignited with disastrous consquences.
