I'm not a mechanic / technician but I assume it would be the same as my
1982 Volvo 244GL . There are ( 2 ) small bolts/screws that hold it on the
back of the alternator . I changed mine twice in the 12 years I had the car .
Take the two screws out , tip the voltage regulator up as you remove it ,
installation is the reverse
My 1982 Volvo 244GL had a voltage regulator in the back of the alternator so I assume your 1984 is the same
The voltage regulator is inside the alternator.
The voltage regulator is inside the alternator on a 1984 Chevy.
You can find the 1984 Ford voltage regulator on the inside front quarter panel. The voltage regulator will be on the drivers side quarter panel.
The regulator is the square silver box on the middle of the firewall.
Yes. It's inside the alternator and is replaceable without alternator disassembly. Remove two screws and the voltage regulator will pull out.
Inside the rear of the alternator It is on the firewall.
The system shouldn't exceed 15 volts. If the battery tests out okay and you are mechanically inclined, you can replace just the voltage regulator inside the original 1984 alternator. A replacement regulator should cost aprox $30.
have the battery checked and test the voltage regulator
The same thing happened to me in my 1984 Mercury (I know, not the same), But it turned out to be the voltage regulator. Some older alternaters dont have internal voltage regulators.
If the battery checks out okay, you can replace just the voltage regulator inside the alternator.
It is part of the alternator. If you are having problems keeping a charge or problem with high voltage, you might want to consider replacing your entire alternator.
