Unfortunately the Power Steering unit is on the way out.
it is on the steering column below the steering wheel
on the steering column beneath steering wheel
The red steering wheel light on a Fiat Punto typically indicates a problem with the power steering system. It may suggest that the power steering has failed or that there is an issue with the steering column. If this light appears, it's important to stop the vehicle safely and consult the owner's manual or a mechanic, as driving without functional power steering can be dangerous.
To remove the power steering rack from a Fiat Punto MK1, first, safely lift the vehicle and support it with jack stands. Disconnect the battery and remove the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles. Then, detach the steering column from the rack and disconnect the power steering hoses. Finally, unbolt the rack from its mounting points and carefully slide it out from the vehicle.
I think the Punto has electric power steering, so no fluid.
To remove the power steering rack from a Fiat Punto MK1, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the power steering fluid. Next, lift the vehicle and remove the front wheels for easier access. Detach the steering column from the rack, then unbolt the rack from its mounts and remove the tie rods from the steering knuckles. Finally, carefully slide the rack out of the vehicle.
Fiat punto power steering reservoir on a y reg were can i find it
More than likely the electric steering motor under the steering column. If your are in the UK, go to a dealer and get them to use the examiner to check. There were units that were superseded by Fiat for failing (NOT a recall!)
As far as I know there is NO reservoir as the power steering is controled by electrical pump linked into the steering rack. You access it by taking the cowling off under the steering column and dropping the fuse cover to reveal the electrical pump
fiat punto's dont have steering fluid. they have electric motors instead.
There is on on the right side of the steering column behind the cubby hole. The second is behind the glove-box. Which can be accessed though the glove-box itself. Nick
Yes they are different. P.A.S is assisted via hydraulic fluid driven by a pump. power steering uses electronic sensors located around the column to control an electric motor that again is usually fixed to the steering column. This system is used on the fiat punto mk2 and even has a city button on the dash to activate it. It is known to give very light steering.
