Standard Classic Mini studs are 3/8" UNF and about 35 mm long. Early front and rear studs had a mushroom head but when disc brakes were introduced the mushroom head was changed to a head like that on a countersunk woodscrew but with no slot. "Competition" studs are still available in several lengths and these are used with wheel spacers. When classic Mini rear hubs are used on trailers it is advantageous to use slightly longer studs on the left hand side. The problem is that at about 600 kilos per axle or more, the wheel nuts on the left hand side tend to work loose especially if potholes and roadworks have been encountered. A 3/8" UNF Nylock nut put on top of the wheel nut will prevent nut loosening from happening. Thread-locking compound will also work. Unfortunately the rear hubs do not have enough metal to allow upgrades to 7/16" UNF or M12 studs.
