I have a 1999 v70 and my problem was rough idle. it went up and down while idling. I found that the butterfly in the intake throttle control was dirty and just needed to be cleaned. If you can take it off yourself and clean the carbon/dirt and oil and the butterfly you can save alot of money. you don't have to remove the intake as Volvo will tell you, all you need to do is be able to feel with your hands the bolts to be removed. and also the clamp that holds the intake tube. then just unplug the ETC and clean it up. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE END CAPS OF THE ETC. there is nothing inside you can service and if you destroy it it will cost about $700 dollars to replace. good luck.
You can start with the 02 sensor. if that does not fix the problem then you may have to consider the ECU.
If the timing is off by a few degrees the engine can start but will run rough. More than a few (depending on the engine) it will not start.
Check engine light, low power, no start, runs rough, bent valves,Check engine light, low power, no start, runs rough, bent valves,
You broke it. Way to go.
The issue sounds like engine timing may have jumped. Check the time, also check engine codes for a possible sensor malfunction.
check spark plug gap and firing order-also check to make sure plugs are tight and wires connected
Yes it can
There are countless different causes of an engine not starting, but in general, if the engine is receiving fuel, has ignition and compression, it will start. Begin with the basics. Next time it won't start, try a little starting fluid. If the engine runs briefly with starting fluid, you have a fuel delivery problem. Then go on from there. The only way to find a problem like that is to break it down. Check your Cam Sensors sometime they have a loose connection, your engine has 2 sensors a primary and secondary if the primary is the problem your engine wont start if its the secondary i will start but will run rough
If your Volvo V40 struggles to start when the engine is hot, it could be due to several issues. Common causes include a faulty crankshaft position sensor, which can fail when heated, or a weak fuel pump that struggles to deliver adequate pressure under warm conditions. Additionally, problems with the ignition system, such as worn spark plugs or a failing ignition coil, may also contribute to the hot start issue. It’s advisable to have a diagnostic check performed to pinpoint the exact cause.
To start the Volvo S40 with a keyless remote, first ensure the key fob is inside the vehicle. Press the brake pedal and then press the start/stop button, usually located on the dashboard. The engine will start, and you can release the brake once the engine is running. If the vehicle does not start, check the key fob battery or ensure it's properly recognized by the ignition system.
Yes, the valet key for a Volvo S40 can start the engine, but it may have limited functionality compared to the standard key. The valet key typically restricts access to the trunk and glove compartment, ensuring that only essential functions are available to the valet. However, it is designed to start and operate the vehicle as needed.
A 8.3L Cummins engine that starts hard, runs rough until warm, and won't start when warm may be suffering from several issues. Potential causes include fuel system problems such as clogged filters, failing injectors, or a malfunctioning fuel pump, which can affect fuel delivery. Additionally, issues with the engine's heat management, such as a faulty thermostat or EGR system, can lead to rough running and hard starting. Lastly, electrical problems, such as weak batteries or poor connections, could also contribute to starting difficulties.
