I am not sure of the answer, however if the E class is 1998 or earlier it probably has a longer life time. Starting in 1999 the quality of MB products started taking a nose dive as the Accountants started taking over the company. This was track-able in consumers guide. I have a 1998 E class with over 100k miles and under $1000 in repairs (not maintenance). I know other cars I have bought my sons (Saturn and Ford Ranger pickup) had about 70,000 mile lifetimes. I and several friends bought Acura Legends in 1988 and all were sold with between 150K and 250K miles and no problems. My guess is the MB is at least this good.
