The brake light switch on a 2004 Citroën Xsara Picasso is located near the brake pedal assembly. It is typically mounted on the top part of the brake pedal bracket, where it can be activated when the pedal is pressed. To access it, you may need to remove the cover beneath the dashboard. Make sure to check your vehicle's manual for specific details and diagrams.
There is a switch behind the brake pedal. Fairly easy to replace, or a 10 minute job at a garage.
Remove the fuse board cover at the right hand side of the steering wheel, the switch is located behind the mass of cables, a quarter turn to the left will allow the switch to be removed.

I have a C15 van (1989) and its a microswitch on the top of the brake pedal. You need a mirror or alternativley stand on your head to see it. Nick
It's under the n/s front light.
If the brake lights on your 1998 Citroen Xsara were working and now they are not, but the bulbs are fine, the issue may be with the brake light switch. The brake light switch is a small electrical component located near the brake pedal that activates the brake lights when the pedal is pressed. It is common for these switches to fail over time, resulting in non-functional brake lights. I recommend checking the brake light switch and replacing it if necessary to restore proper brake light functionality.
