It is located inside the tranny itself. Most failures result from Transmission Fluid contamination of the module. They can be rebuilt by several companies (1 week) so a new one is not required. Changing requires breaking open the transmission. I would not go to the dealer on this as they may recommend a new tranny. Not necessary
