Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) was created by Stanley Leif in 1930. It consists of palpation skills, the ability to feel differences in tissues, and a precise knowledge of anatomy, along with specific techniques for their release. The methods used are focused on releasing trigger points to help treat and prevent soft tissue injuries. In the 1970's and 80's, Janet Travel did extensive research to support the idea of trigger points and how they can be treated. After Janet Travel, the other person responsible for promoting the development of neuromuscular therapy is Paul St. John.
