I have had four pairs of pumas and three asics, and the asics I owned all lasted longer, were a more normal width, and were more comfortable. (to me) Two of my asics were still "wearable" in eleven months, with the occasional hole in the mesh. My pumas were of course narrow, good but not great, and lasted for about seven months, although I do like all the pumas where the tongue of the shoe isn't loose. They are both made out of the US though, New Balance is the only one manufactured in the US.
I like Asics more overall. (Also, you can see that all of the marathon runners wore asics in the Olympics)
