I think going up and down stairs is better because it's cardio and it will exercise your heart which will burn fat better. I go for long walks a lot and I realized that I was missing the cardio. Most of the people that I know who run or do something exerting have low body fat, which I want. I'll know in a couple of months if it works because I just added cardio to my routine.
