Well it is good for MANY things.

First of all it enhances your physical shape. You'll get stronger, be able to withstand more strain, wont become out of breath as easily etc. So it improves your physical abilities.

Also it decreases the risk of getting many diseases and conditions. For example it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, reducing the risk for Heart disease.

Also it reduces the risk for Diabetes because it helps control weight.

Another important thing is that it can improve your mental well being too. Regular exercise releases hormones that give a sense of well being. Also it can make a person feel more energetic and happy.

So over-all, exercising is very important for the body and mind.
