there is an lactic acid produced by the muscles when we exercise. this acid needs to be oxidized by the liver and more oxygen is needed which is just taken when u are exercising. when we stop doing exercise the amount of oxygen take in decreases and the remaining acid accumulates in muscles and causes muscle fatigue
