Since you don't say which country you're specifically interested in, it is impossible to get an accurate answer. In some countries, if you marry you will become a citizen while in others, such as the USA, Canada or Australia for example, marriage does not automatically get you citizenship, If you're a legal resident, you will normally become eligible for citizenship after a certain period of time...the length of time being dependent on the country in which you are a legal resident...subject to meeting certain residency requirements (i.e. the amount of time physically spent in that country since becoming a legal resident) and normally a citizenship test of some sort. Getting married to a U.S. citizen will not make you a legal resident. If you are in the U.S. legally you can file to adjust your status to a legal resident. If you are in the U.S. illegally, getting married to a U.S. citizen will not help. You will need to go back to your country and apply for either a K1 fiance visa or a K3 spousal visa.
