Bipolar disorder is a type of mental illness. In BP Type 1, people cycle, or change moods, between a really depressed state to something called hypomania, which is a fancy way of saying super-happy. Then they cycle towards mania, which can start out as an elevated mood but ends up as something scarier... racing heart, hearing voices sometimes, saying and doing things that don't make sense and put the person and others in danger. This cycling can happen slowly, over the course of years, or quickly, over the course of seconds.

Bipolar Type II is like BP1 in some ways. In Type II a person cycles between depression and hypomania, but spend most of their time in a depressed state.

Bipolar Disorder is a real illness, a serious illness, and if you or someone you know seems to be suffering from it, seek help. More information is available on the internet... You aren't alone.

Can crack cause bipolar disorder?

It can cause a whole lot more than just biploar disorder. That stuff will mess you up for life.

How can you tell if the girl you are dating is bipolar or just not that interested in you?

Ask herHowever, I would tread carefully here. Implying that someone is bipolar just because they are not interested in you is going to come across as judgemental and arrogant. Better to simply ask if they are interested in you, and leave out the biploar part.

You get physically and emotiotionally sick from husbands loud tone of voice. been in thpy for 6 yrs and marriage counseling for 3 mnths. You are being medicated for dep. and anx. but not helps anymore?

If medication for depression and anxiety is not working, there is a possibility that there is another closely related mental health issue that needs treatment. Seeking your doctors opinion, and also seeking other doctor's opinions until you get the help you need is important. Mental Health support groups or helplines can also provide information or just someone to talk to when things seem too much. There are some milder forms of biploar that have very similar symptoms to depression, but need different therapy. This may or may not be true for you, but worth exploring.

What is the cure for bipolar?

I have bipolar disorder and unfortunatly there is no cure, but it can be managed, with the right medication there is no reason why a person with biploar cant live a happy stable life. A good sleep routine is also really important going to sleep and waking at the same time everyday can do a lot to help you stay on top of it.

Why do you have lemon cravings?

I had lemon cravings as well for quite a while and went from a situation where I could barely stand a few drops of lemon juice in my tea to drinking the juice of 1-2 lemons on an empty stomach every morning - plus many others during the day. I read somewhere that lemon cravings are an indication of a lack of lithium in the body. Coincidentally, at the time of my cravings I had my urine tested and the lithium levels appeared to be lower than normal (although I had no symptoms of depression or biploar disease). I am now craving fresh figs and have still to find out why. I believe that specific cravings are an indication that your body needs something. I also believe that there are many nutrients in each fresh raw food that have not even been discovered. I also read that raw figs are good for the pancreas. I believe that if the food is raw and healthy, there should not be any reason why not to consume it in the quanttities the body is asking for.

How effective is Lexapro for treating alcohol abuse?

Lexapro will not treat alcohol abuse. Once someone is sober, Lexapro will assist with the recovery of healthy seratonin levels in the brain. After periods of alcohol abuse, the brain's chemistry is affected, and seratonin levels become low. Supplementing a recovery program, e.g., 12-step program, with an SSRI, such as Lexapro, is an option to help find serenity. Serenity is the medicine addicts need to stay off of drugs and alcohol.Lexapro has been shown to be of benefit to some people in the clinical treatment of alcohol addiction when it is combined with other treatment and therapy. It's theorized that in some way it reduces the discomfort caused by low levels of certain neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, that are depleted by alcohol use, and that it makes the transition to sobriety easier.Because everyone's brain chemistry is different, psych drugs of all kinds tend to be selective. Some people need to try several in order to find one that works. We also need to be aware that with many psych drugs it is necessary to take them for prolonged periods before seeing results, especially if our brain chemistry has been disrupted by addiction. The effects of alcohol and other drugs on the brain can persist for months, even for a couple of years.I took Lexapro for 6 months and this drug is very effective in reducing alcohol consumption. I may have an occasional beer or a drink, but I was unable to do so while taking Lexapro. The side effects with alcohol are horrible. As with any drug, side effects depend on the person who is taking the medication.Lexapro is an antidepressant and will not help with preventing abuse. I might help with help someone to not think that they need to drink so often.Lexapro might offer some benefit if the underlying cause of the alcohol abuse is depression.Unfortunately, it isn't always easy to tell, even by professionals, if the alcoholism stems from depression or if the depression is caused by the alcoholism. This is the case with one of my family members; he's fought with both for many years...and he's losing.I've been on Lexapro for depression (not alcohol abuse) fora little over a month. It hasn't seemed to do much so I've had my dosage increased. It still has not seemed to do much. The way it was explained to me by my Dr. is that Lexapro isn't mood-altering. It simply maintains your seratonin levels so that you don't get rock bottom depressed or stay there.Being that I'm having a hard time "believing" that Lexapro treats depression, I'd have an even harder time believing it would help someone suffering from alcohol abuse -- unless the abuse were specifically caused by the person's inability to produce seratonin -- a highly unlikely (in my opinion, anyway), "cause" of alcohol abuse.I have found that a drug called Topamax, a drug used as a treatment for biploar, cluster headaches and more, has truly helped me control cravings to binge drink and to binge eat. I don't drink nearly as much as I used to. I's been amazing!

Differences between a triode and a diode?

A triode refers to a vacuum tube amplifier or switch of the simplest form. It has three parts: A heated cathode, a control grid and an collection plate anode.Electrons are emitted from the cathode and drawn towards the positive anode. Interposed between the two is a control grid that controls the cathode-to-anode electron flow by being charged appropriately, for example a negative charge (ground) on the grid will hamper the flow since the negative electron charge on the grid will obstruct the electron flow to the positive anode. There are a number of variations in electronic tube designs. Even though tubes have been supplanted by solid state designs generally, they still have many valuable uses.A transistor is a solid state device made of "P" and "N" type materials so arranged as to modify the current through it to amplify or switch current flow. There are also many types of solid state transistor designs and they are now far more common than electron tubes.the difference one is a voltage amplifier and the other is a current amplfier that is the major difference.Further important differences:Vacuum-tube triodes need some hundreds of milliwatts to watts just to light the filament/heater. This is wasted power that can appear as waste heat in the circuit, and reduces the electrical efficiency of the vacuum-tube triode. Triodes also have limited lifetimes, commonly due to the filament/heater burning out, or losing its electron emission. Transistors have no such limitations and are (i) much more efficient, (ii) can run at much lower power, and (iii) have very long lifetimes.Vaccuum-tube triodes cannot be made much smaller than around 10 mm/half an inch in diameter, and maybe the same length. Transistors can be made at the nanometre scale, so transistor electronics are much more compact. Imagine putting together a USB memory chip with (at least) 32,000,000,000 triodes!Conventional triodes are able to operate to about 5 GHz (5000 MHz). Some special valves can work at higher frequencies, about around 100 GHz is the limit. Such valves are large, expensive, and have high noise figures. Low-noise, small, cheap transistors exist that can easily work past 100 HGz.

What is the difference between depression and bi polar?

The main difference between them is that people with depression experience only depression, whereas people afflicted by bipolar disorder experience both depression and hypomania or mania. When someone is depressed they often link everything to being their fault and often feel like suicide.Whereas, my friend who has bipolar is different in the sense that when you have bipolar, you experience happy and sad emotions, that contrast each other greatly. I see my friend having a laugh and enjoying herself. Then totally depressed another time.Bipolar disorder causes dramatic mood swings-from overly "high" and/or irritable (Mania) to sad and hopeless (Depression), and then back again, often with periods of normal mood in between. Severe changes in energy and behavior go along with these changes in mood. The periods of highs and lows are called episodes of mania and depression. People with bipolar disorder can have episodes of mild to severe mania in addition to severe depressive episodes. (Mild mania is called hypomania. )There are 2 main types of bipolar disorder. Bipolar 1 includes severe depressive and manic episodes and in some cases visual or auditory hallucinations. Bipolar 2 includes hypomania alternating with depression.
