Father Jean de Brébeuf was a French Jesuit missionary known for his significant role in the early Canadian missions among the Huron people in the 17th century. He is recognized for his efforts to learn the Huron language, translate religious texts, and establish missions. Brébeuf was martyred in 1649 during conflicts with the Iroquois and is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church, celebrated for his dedication and sacrifice in spreading Christianity. He is also one of the eight Canadian Martyrs recognized by the Church.
