There currently is no such thing as the ameuro; however, this could perhaps be a theoretical currency union between North America and Europe. The euro is currently the common currency of 16 member states of the European Union who have abandoned their legacy national currencies in favour of a European currency union; most of the remaining member states are also expected to eventually adopt the euro. The amero is the name given to the currency unit resulting from a theorized currency union involving the United States, Mexico and Canada. Despite the concept having been raised in a number of scholarly articles, and forming the basis of numerous conspiracy theories - particularly amongst right-wing commentators in the United States who also warn of the creation of an EU-style "North American Union" amongst the signatories of the NAFTA trade agreement - none of the 3 countries involved has ever admitted to any plans of such an integration of either their economies or currencies. The term ameurowould appear to then relate to a currency unit created through the unification of the existing European currency union with the theorized North American currency union.
