Probably the Clutch Master Cylinder or the slave cylinder.
The pressure plate is not fully releasing (clutch pack is bad)
put it in neutral then try to start it.
The transmission has to come out to replace the clutch. This is defiantely not a job you want to try for yourself unless you know your way around transmissions and drive axles.
You would need someone to look under the vehicle at the drive shaft while you try to move. If the drive shaft spins, but you don't move, its the rear end. No spinning drive shaft, then you have no clutch.
If the compressor is bad or noisy and the AC clutch is okay try unplugging the AC clutch fuse or relay.
ok if it is Neutral and you want to put it in to 4 high then push th clutch in then try to move it if it dose not move release out on the clutch just a little it might grind a little but should pop in to 4 high if this dose not work check your linkage on the side of you transfer case.
Try the link attached. Note: clutch does not have to be removed, just makes it a bit easier. Idler next to the clutch must be centered on slot usually.
If it's a hydraulic clutch, try bleeding the slave cylinder. Manual linkage, try adjusting the clutch. If no help, something's wrong with the pressure plate and you need a new clutch.
try to bleed the clutch
It could be either one. it may be your tranny not doing its job 100% or it could be that your clutch could be bad. but you'd have to really look and see whats wrong, before you even atempt to try replacing something, when it could have been the other. then it'll have cost more.
That's not a question. Try asking"Why won't my ford escort start?"
start it and try to put it in gear without using the clutch if it goes the clutch is shot
