Day old bread is bread/bread dough that is one day old, and the 6-day old stuff has aged for approximatley 6 days. It's just what you think it is; there is no "trick" explanation.

How many cups of bread cubes if recipe calls for 3 oz?

If your recipe asks for cubed day old bread, it would be best to use it. It helps to bind the meat together and gives it extra bulk. Dry bread crumbs aren't quite as good. If you need to use bread crumbs, use 1/2 cup per slice of bread. Another source points out that 4 ounces of bread equals 3 cups of soft crumbs so according to this you would need 4 ounces of crumbs. One ounce of bread crumbs is 1/4 cup (or 28g) so four ounces of bread crumbs would be 1 cup. In using a substitution like this, it is always best to watch carefully to make sure you are not drying out your recipe too much. Substitutions may not always be accurate for your particular recipe or ingredients.but if your making stuffing use french bread dry it the laundy room and put a lot of sage Unless your being creative I wouldn't suggest replacing bread crumbs with cubed day old bread. It will give you a much different result. One easy solution is to lightly toast some slices of bread then cut it into cubes. As mentioned above French Bread or actually any type you really like can give you some great results.

What exactly does day-old bread mean and does it mean that you leave it out for a day not wrapped up?

It means bread that is dry and slightly stale, which is usually several days old. If you need stale bread (for stuffing, for example) and you don't have any, leaving it uncovered overnight is a good way to 'stale' it.

What can you substitute for day old bread?

If you want to make fresh bread into day-old bread, the easiest way to do so is to simply let it sit out at room temperature for a day. This will allow the bread to dry out slightly and become less soft and fresh-tasting. Alternatively, you can also achieve a similar effect by heating the bread in a low oven (around 200-250 degrees Fahrenheit) for a few minutes. This will help to remove some of the moisture from the bread and give it a slightly more stale texture. Keep in mind, however, that these methods will only give you a rough approximation of true day-old bread. For the best results, it's best to let the bread sit out for a full day before using it in recipes or serving it.

Is French toast - French?

Technically yes but the term "french Toast" was developed in America French toast is no more French, than fortune cookies are Chinese. The recipe dates back to medieval times. The English might have learned it from the French, and called it "french toast", but in France the name is "Pain perdu" (lost bread). Originally it was a dish made by poor people, to eat the stale bread.

What is the name of the person who made french toast?

My name is Daryn, I made french toast this morning. But, if you are seeking the name of french toast maker number one, you are out of luck. Soaking bread in eggs and frying it was just a way to use old bread and is as old as bread-making itself. However, the earliest recorded reference I could find is from a 4th century Roman cookbook with the recipe attributed to a fella named Apicius.

Bruschetta Recipe?

A classic recipe can easily be revamped with a few new ingredients. For example, this bruschetta recipe uses peppers instead of the tomato which is traditionally used in bruschetta. This is also an instance of substituting what you like for things that you aren't too fond of. This recipe calls for goat cheese but any cheese can be substituted. Mozzarella, gorgonzola...they would all be great! Try alternating just one ingredient in a "classic" recipe that you have had a million times—it will bring a fresh twist on the same old, same old! Bruschetta with Goat Cheese Ingredients: Olive oil 2 bell peppers (red, yellow or green) 1 tablespoon capers Fresh basil leaves Salt Black pepper Baguette or Italian Bread Goat cheese 2 Garlic cloves Directions: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. 1. Heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the peppers and cook until soft, about 15 minutes. 2. Add the capers, basil, salt and pepper. 3. Slice the bread into thin slices. Brush the bread lightly with olive oil. Arrange on a sheet pan and toast in the oven until lightly browned about 10 minutes. 4. Slice garlic clove in half. When warm bread comes out of the oven, gently rub the side of the garlic clove on the bread. 5. Top each piece of bread with a helping of the pepper mixture. Place 2 small pieces of goat cheese on top. Return the bread to the oven for about 2 minutes until warmed.
