Hey there, You sure can mate! As long as the water conditons are right for both fish and niether fish are aggressive towards others. Fighters are aggressive towards other male fighters but normally go alright with other fish unless u put him in with nippy fish for example barbs. So u should be fine, but there is a slight chance the fighter might flare up at ur algae eater or try to have a go. But it shouldn't go any further than that. Just keep an eye on them. :oD Catch! PS/ Its not illegal to put a male fighter with other fish, its illegal to put two males together. I just thought id say that :o)

∙ 11y agoBettas are best as a solitary fish with a few small exceptions. Goldfish are best with goldfish, and as such, the two should not be mixed.
In addition, they have different needs which includes water temperature as a betta prefers 78F to 80F, and that is simply too warm for goldfish on a regular basis.

∙ 14y agoYes. Algae eaters and Bettas are not related species (they will not fight). They come from similar water conditions in the wild so they will mix OK provided your tank is set up properly and large enough for the 2 fish. (At least 5 gals)

Can betta fish kill goldfish?
yes because once i got a betta fish and i put in a tank with a gold fish the first day the betta killed the goldfish so i boult a nother goldfish it did not kill the goldfish because i put them in sepret tanks so that's what you guys should do it because i did it try it people your goldfish will not dy. my goldfish was a fin-nipper that's why it killed it because the goldfish ripped a fin off of the betta so do not put betta fish with goldfish because you never no if the goldfish is a betta.

No, betta fish are tropical fish; goldfish are coldwater fish, this should be reason enough not to mix the two. The mixing of these fish would be irresponsible and could yield distatorous results. One reason not to mix them would be because betta fish are quite small; most don't even reach 1/3 the size of a goldfish (even when full grown!) it makes them very likely to get bullied by the other fish. Fin nipping can be a major problem and is dangerous for the health of the fish. Do all your fish a favor by not mix betta fish with goldfish.
